The Project takes winnership for its "Best Publication in Hydro Power 2017"

November 16-17, Saint-Petersburg. At the 11th scientific and technical conference “Hydro Energy. Water Supply Engineering. New Solutions” the “Compendium of Innovative Solutions for Biodiversity Conservation in Hydro Power Sector” was presented and discussed. The work became the winner in the contest organized by Association of Hydro Energy Companies of Russia as the Best publication in hydro energy sector

Summarizing the Projects Final Output in Kuzbass

9 November 2017, Kemerovo. The Administration Office of the Kemerovo Oblast hosted a conference dedicated to the completion of the Project UNDP/GEF-Ministry of Nature of Russia “Mainstreaming biodiversity conservation into Russian energy sector policies and operations". With altogether of 24 Project initiatives on the site, this unique and substantial experience is to be mainstreamed across other Russian regions, showing how to marry coal companies’ interests, environmental responsibility and governmental support.

8 November 2017, Novokuznetsk. Simulation Exercise ‘SEA-based Design of a Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of Territories’ took place in Novokuznetsk with the support of the Project UNDP/GEF – Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. Among more than 90 participants were representatives of administrative authorities and elected officials of Novokuznetsk municipal area, regional businesses, academic and environmental organizations.

Dedicated web portal developed under the auspices of the Project presented at EuroArctic 2017

October, 2017: At 4th International Conference EuroArctic-2017 in Naryan-Mar, the Project presented a database and a related web-portal on the regional biodiversity. The database was created under the auspices  of the Project within the initiative to develop a methodology for environmental vulnerability of the region and dedicated maps.

Completion of SEA Initiative for Novokuznetsk Area of Kemerovo Region

In February 2016, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) started to evaluate the integral program for socio-economic development of Novokuznetsk municipal area, which is one of the pilot initiatives of the Project UNDP/GEF – Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. This is the first evaluation of that kind in Novokuznetsk area. SEA focused on environmental assessment of the state of Novokuznetsk area, the public health, recommendations on prevention of negative impact on the environment, and so on.

The Project results presented at Third All-Russian Academic and Research Conference Best Practices and Issues of Keeping Regional Red Lists

The Conference in Volgograd within the Russian Year of Ecology-2017 started with acknowledgments to dedicated specialists. The Project experience was presented at one of the discussion panels, ‘SPNAs as Major Test Fields for Rare Species Monitoring,’ revealing high interest in the subject among representatives of local authorities, environmentalists and academic institutions from 19 Russian federal regions.

Memorandum of Securing Joint Sustainable Output signed by WWF and the Project UNDP/GEF-Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia

For further mainstreaming of the Project’s results, in October 2017 Memorandum of Securing Joint Sustainable Output was signed between WWF and the Project UNDP/GEF-Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia. Within the framework of further partnership, the Environmental Responsibility Ratings of Russian energy companies and Strategic Environmental Assessments will be further developed.
